Saskatchewan is COOOOOLD.

The last elevator standing. I believe (Dad correct me if I'm wrong) there were 7 elevators before.

Main Street Prelate! Those couple of parked cars in the distance is the bar!

Hey everyone!

WOW! What a weekend. I headed out east to bum-cheek Saskatchewan to visit my Grandma this weekend. Rexy, Dad and I left on Friday after I got off work. Leslie and Mom stayed home to get some alone, no responsibility time, to rest and recover. Little did we know, it was far from that.

So this was pretty much my first venture alone with Rexy, or any pet for that matter, ever in my life. I thought it would be good to get some alone time with Rexy so she would start listening to me instead of just eating me all the time. No sweat, one weekend!

We got to Prelate (about 1h 30m NE of Medicine Hat) at about 1am (with the time change). Rexy was her usual self, chewing, biting, jumping, running, and sorts. We went to bed and all was great.

Saturday morning Rexy would have NOTHING to do with her food, which is weird since she usually demolishes it. She wouldn't drink water, or even play around. Weird. All of a sudden she starts vomiting all over my 83 year old grandmas floor in the kitchen. What the %$^#? I had never seen a dog throw up, but it was huge, and like a rocket coming out! She ended up puking 3 times in a row, then two more later. I started getting worried, not having any idea what was going on. Not good. So I call Leslie.

It turns out that Leslie was missing one of her Nike socks and couldn't find it. I checked Rexy's kennel and sure enough there was a Nike sock covered in slime that she must have got out during the night. That dumb dog.

The rest of the day Rexy wouldn't do anything, eat anything or drink anything. I was worried but we decided to let her rest a bit and see. 10pm rolls around and she is still not looking so good, so I call Leslie to get a hold of the vet and he says get her back to a hospital as soon as possible.

We are in the middle of nowhere, at 10:30pm, it's minus 32 outside. We decided to wait out the night and if she was bad still in the morning we would go right away. It turns out Sunday morning she is back to the crazy, bad, hyper dog that I know. Since then she is completely fine. Man, I'll tell you, I was scared. What do you do in that situation. Driving that late, in the cold with all the deer and icy roads, it's almost too risky. But then again, you love your dog. Needless to say, it was quite the opposite of the relaxing weekend we planned.

Today I did my first outdoor run of the year. Well, now that I think about it, my first run of the year period. It went ok. I did a 40 minute out and back from the gym and the conditions were pretty bad. Snow, slush, mud, and ice pretty much sum it up. The route was really hilly too, which I didn't really enjoy, but considering the Moonlight Run is only in a week and a half, I better get some practice it.

Tonight I went swimming to make up for the missed one last night as we drove home. I was there by myself again, and late again too so I had to squeeze it all in. Here is what I did.

200m warm up
6 x 50m @ 90% with a 20s rest
6 x 100m @ race pace with a 30s rest
4 x 50m @ 95% with a 20s rest
4 x 25m @ 100% with a 15s rest (the rest was supposed to be 30s but I messed up, oops)
100m cool down.

It was short speed work, and boy was it tough. Everything hurt at the end, and I was breathing like I was climbing Everest with no oxygen. WOW! I am happy to report that I did get all the stuff done that Greg told me to do while he was gone in Hawaii!!! Whoo hoo!!!

All right, this is getting long! I'm out!

Grizzle Beast!
