Ready to Run!

Hey!

Well, it's almost here, the first race of the season. Saturday sure seems to be coming fast!

On Monday, I finally had enough of this cold weather crap and waiting for it to get warm and not slushy enough to run outside since I despise treadmills. Leslie and I headed down to Talisman and signed up on a couples membership. For both of us it worked out to only $20 more per month than we were paying already for the $5 drop ins every month. Good deal. Now we can go at any time, not just the last hour and a half, and I can finally get some running in not freezing my ass off.

Monday was also a pretty productive day workout wise. I did 45 minutes of a whole body program on my TRX training system in the afternoon, then had another hour off in the evening so I did a little more chest and back work in the free weight area. After signing up for our membership I did a 3 km run on the track, nice and easy, in 14:30 I think. I didn't want to do too much and push too hard since my running has been a little slack as of ohhhhhhh, the last 3 months but I did want to get a little in before the race on Saturday. I think I am going to try and get another short faster run in tomorrow night with some short sprints then that's it until race day.

Tuesday I was pretty sore from everything on Monday so I went out for a beer and watched hockey highlights after work since we don't have cable at the house any more.

Wednesday was a swim night. Greg was going to be late to the pool so he called and said get an endurance workout done. Long and slow. He mentioned 4 sets of 400 or 500, or 2 sets of 1000. I decided to do a set of 2000m instead. I feel a lot more confident about the half ironman in August if I know I can swim the 2km no problem. I felt pretty good tonight and my watch time was 3 minutes faster than the last time I did it, not to mention a few short stops for people in the lane, goggle empties, and a short chat with Darryl and Greg. All in all, it was probably about 5 minutes faster than last time which is good. I would rather be confident in my swim and worry about the other stuff like the ice lake on race day!

Things are well, except this stupid weather. It's safe to say, I'm ready for spring! I'll update before the race with some goals!

You should feel fortunate that the weather is getting better! It IS time to start training outside, however, I love my treadmill too much....
