Haaaaaaaaalo!
Well Greg and Allan. You will both be happy to know that my triceps / shoulders / and pecs are dead. Yep, toast. Kind of more like burnt toast. Just done.
Monday night after work I got some squatting done. It went pretty well. My old workout buddy Colin showed up and we worked together. I got done a few warm up sets then into the working sets of 215 lbs for 5 sets of 5 reps. Pretty clean. A little bit wobbly on a few of them but none the less a big step above last week for sure. I have found that I have been thinking so much about technique that I almost have over taught myself what to do. I noticed that I had been really off balance as of late and couldn't figure out why. I attributed it to a weak core from lack of serious training lately and kept going. Guess what, that's not it. I actually have started sitting so far back on my heels during squats that I was losing my balance. For the last couple of squat workouts I concentrated on shifting a tiny bit forward, still keeping pressure on the heels but keeping more surface area of my foot on the ground tight. It seems to be working. It's funny how you can almost get too perfect sometimes, hey?
Tuesday night I benched. Allan was there and as always things seem to get tougher when he's around. Not that I'm complaining but it's kind of like a kick in the pants. He doesn't really have to say or do anything in particular, but it's tougher. Anyway, I stuck to 135 lbs since I hadn't benched in a few weeks and shot for 5 working sets of 8 reps. I think I got them all except on the last set I missed 1 rep (or 2?), I can't remember. I will do it again hopefully at the end of the week with some technique adjustments and see what happens.
Tonight was swim night with Greg, Darryl, and Leslie. FINALLY after everyone got ready (slackers) we got into the pool. We did a couple hundred meter warm up then 4, 50 m lengths of golf. I'm happy to report I've figured out the secret to golf. Only take as much strokes as absolutely necessary to keep your pace. When I started golfing (in the pool) my scores were upwards of 100 and tonight I got a new personal best of 79! Greg and Darryl are in low 70's and high 60's so I still got some to go, but it's a lot better than 100!
After golfing we got into the main sets. We did one set of 50, then 100, 150, 200, and 250 m. Then we worked all the way back down again. It was tough. I was pretty pooped by the end of it but I managed to only finish about 10 minutes or so after everybody else! Ya me! I'm starting to be able to hold my own with these guys/girl. Another year or so and I'll be right there with them! Well, hopefully anyway.
That brings me to know. Dead arms. Sore shoulders. Tired legs.
Good night!
